Should you have any questions regarding the provisional breeder membership, please contact the Provisional Breeder Member Secretary, Cain Haley, by telephone at +1 828-787-1955 or via e-mail at CHaley1010@aol.com.

Please include $30.00 in U.S. funds, an international money order or a check drawn on a U.S. bank.  It is suggested that you submit your application by registered mail.

It is also suggested that you print the attached Constitution, Standing Rules and By-Laws for future reference.

A new member is required to submit a completed application, including their sponsor’s signature, and a signed Code or Ethics along with a check for $30 for the first year of dues.  Dues for subsequent years are $25.00.  You will in return receive the book Caring For, Breeding, and Showing Your Maine Coon Cat and a membership card.  On the second anniversary date of acceptance to provisional status you will be eligible for placement on a ballot to become a full breeder member provided that your file contains the following:

  1. Proof of showing an owned Maine Coon cat or kitten in at least 6 shows (any accepted registries) by submitting the cat’s listing in the catalogue for each show, signed by a breeder member who was present or by the show manager and the entry clerk plus a copy of the show committee listing for each show.
  2. Copies of 2 litter registrations for litters born during provisional status.  If from the same female, they must be at least 8 months apart.
  3. A letter of intent including why the applicant wishes to become a member.
  4. A detailed re-evaluation and recommendation by the sponsor.
  5. Two cattery inspections for members in U.S. or Canada, to be done personally, by those people making recommendations.  These should cover health and socialization of the cats and cleanliness of the cattery.  There should also be information regarding record keeping and the use of contracts.  For international provisionals, one cattery inspection is required.  Remotely located provisionals, domestic or international, may petition the Executive Council to approve by majority vote the acceptance of an inspection report from a reputable breeder of another breed or a veterinarian or otherwise reasonably modify this requirement.
  6. Items 1 through 5 should be sent to the Provisional Breeder Secretary.

Membership entitles you to receive “The Scratch Sheet”, MCBFA ’s quarterly newsletter.

Your two years of provisional membership will begin as soon as I receive the completed application, signed Code of Ethics, and your $30.00 dues for the first year.  All dues must be paid in U.S. funds, checks drawn on a U.S. bank or an international money order.  Your name will be placed on the very first ballot for which you are eligible.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have problems or questions.  I am here to assist you in making your time as a provisional member productive and pleasant.

    Sincerely,
    Cain Haley
